Nanyamba Town Council was formally established in July, 2015 by the Local Government (Urban Authorities) Act No. 8 of 1982 by Government Proclamation No. 220 dated 05/06/2015.
The real purpose of the establishment of Nanyamba Town is to bring closer to the people various economic and social services including the sectors of Water, Agriculture, Education, Roads, Health as well as improve the existing infrastructure for the benefit of the people of Nanyamba.
Nanyamba Town is one of the three councils in Mtwara District. In the North East it borders the Mtwara District Council.
West borders Tandahimba District and Lindi Region. South Country of Mozambique.
The headquarters of the Council is located in Nanyamba ward, there is one Nanyamba constituency, Division 3 wards 17 17 villages 87 streets 9 and 323 neighborhoods.

Ongoing socio-economic development for the people of Nanyamba Town Council and up to 2025.
