Position Summary
The Flight Instructor II provides advanced flight instruction to student and licensed pilots in accordance with approved training programs, aviation regulations, and organizational safety standards. The position is responsible for delivering effective ground and flight training, evaluating student performance, maintaining accurate training records, and promoting a strong culture of aviation safety and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct flight and ground instruction for students pursuing pilot certificates, ratings, and additional qualifications.
- Provide instruction in accordance with applicable aviation regulations, approved curricula, aircraft operating procedures, and organizational policies.
- Prepare lesson plans, pre-flight briefings, demonstrations, and post-flight debriefings.
- Evaluate student knowledge, skills, progress, and readiness for practical examinations or additional training.
- Maintain accurate and timely student training records, flight logs, and required documentation.
- Identify student performance deficiencies and develop appropriate corrective training plans.
- Conduct aircraft inspections and ensure aircraft are properly configured and safe for instructional operations.
- Promote sound aeronautical decision-making, risk management, crew resource management, and safe operating practices.
- Maintain currency and proficiency in assigned aircraft and instructional areas.
- Coordinate with other instructors, maintenance personnel, scheduling staff, and flight operations management.
- Participate in standardization, instructor development, safety meetings, and quality-assurance activities.
- Report aircraft defects, safety concerns, incidents, and other operational issues promptly.
- Perform other duties related to flight training and operations as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate ratings for assigned instructional duties.
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate and applicable instructor ratings.
- Appropriate instrument instructor qualification where required by the training program.
- Meets applicable aviation authority medical, currency, and proficiency requirements.
- Demonstrated flight-instruction experience and a strong understanding of aviation regulations and training standards.
- Strong communication, instructional, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work professionally with students of varied experience and learning abilities.
- Also, be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional flight instructor ratings or advanced aviation qualifications.
- Experience preparing students for practical tests and advanced pilot training.
- Experience with structured or collegiate flight-training programs.
- Familiarity with flight-training devices, simulators, electronic training records, and modern aviation training technology.
- Strong record of safety, instructional effectiveness, and student completion.

Working Conditions
The position involves regular operation of training aircraft and may require extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, and exposure to aircraft noise and varying weather conditions. The Flight Instructor II must be capable of performing assigned duties safely and maintaining required medical, licensing, currency, and proficiency standards.
